The dining table that brings an elephant's strength into your home
Some pieces of furniture tell a story before anyone has even sat down. LINTELOO's new dining table TEMBO, designed by Studio Roderick Vos, is a fine example. The name already says a lot: TEMBO means 'elephant' in Swahili — an animal that is majestic and sociable, radiating a calm strength. That exact combination forms the foundation of the design: robust and firmly rooted, yet warm and inviting.
Shaped by time, drawn with precision
TEMBO looks as though it came about organically. The edge and legs show subtle distortions, as if the table has been shaped over time by everything that has taken place above it: dinners, conversations, a resting elbow. It's an aesthetic of natural, imperfect perfection.
Yet nothing here is accidental. Every curve has been precisely designed using advanced digital tools. It's exactly that contrast — an organic appearance born from technological precision — that gives TEMBO its strength.
In conversation with the designer
Roderick Vos explains his design choices:
With this design, I was looking for a balance between the discipline of straight lines and the sinuosity of curves. I love the contrast between the smooth tabletop and its rim, paired with a deliberately oversized table leg. The asymmetrical curves give the table a distinct character. From every angle, it reveals a different presence.
That last line sums it up well: TEMBO keeps changing shape as you walk around it. The asymmetry isn't a decorative trick, but a deliberate choice to make the table worth looking at from every angle.
Technology and craftsmanship, hand in hand
TEMBO is a strong addition to the LINTELOO collection, a brand known for its blend of technology and craftsmanship. The result is furniture that feels both iconic and deeply human — design that proves the most advanced digital design methods can lead to something warm and personal, rather than something sterile.
In the end, a dining table is where everyday life happens. TEMBO seems aware of that: strong and timeless in appearance, and at the same time an invitation to become part of the story it tells.
Studio Roderick Vos
Studio Roderick Vos is a Netherlands-based design studio led by Roderick Vos and Claire Vos. Working across lighting, textiles, accessories and furniture, the studio is known for its rigorous research and hands-on approach to technology, material and colour—always anchored in craft.
Roderick Vos (Groningen, 1965), a graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven, shaped his design language through an early formative period in Japan, developing a lasting affinity with Asian culture and making. His philosophy centres on humility and emotion: clear, simple forms with presence—objects that don’t need explanation, but speak through use.
Claire Vos (Tegelen, 1965) brings a deeply rooted textile sensibility, reinterpreting traditional techniques, colourings and forms into contemporary, almost graphical compositions. With a background shaped by Italy, Switzerland and Indonesia, her work bridges artisanal knowledge and modern production. In projects such as Liquid Layers for Moooi, she explores new digital approaches to pattern design and material expression.
