Sergio Herman – Cadzand (NL) / Antwerp (B)
Jan was a regular guest at Oud Sluis in Zeeland, in the South of the Netherlands, when it was still run by Sergio’s parents. Sergio has closed his three star restaurant, so the new opportunities to experience the best food in the world by Sergio are now Pure C in Cadzand and The Jane in Antwerp, which is situated in a beautifully decorated old chapel.
Nolet’s Vistro – Yerseke (NL)
The Nolet family’s bistro in Yerseke (Zeeland) is next to the harbour where the oysters, mussels and, in season, even lobster, are brought in every day right onto your plate. A casual setting with a small terrace in summer. The hostess Marieke, who always has the best suggestions, recently got married to the chef. Congratulations!
Tollius – Amersfoort (NL)
Owned by Peter Gertenbach and Caroline van der Vlies, this is the best restaurant in the vicinity of our office and showroom in Zeist. We used to live around the corner almost twenty years ago and have become good friends. The interior is beautiful, with works of art by Claudy Jongstra. and the food is truly exceptional.
Arte – Antwerp (B)
Old time favourite in Antwerp. This Italian restaurant has managed to keep the quality high and the staff are the best in town. Contemporary feel and good food and wine by the Lampis family from Sardinia. Art exhibitions with works by famous Belgian artists like Jan Fabre.
Il Gatto Nero – Cernobbio (IT)
This restaurant by Fausto Fontana, just above Cernobbio, has the most beautiful view over Lake Como. North Italian dishes on well set tables and packed with beautiful people. The ambiance is part of the experience. Expect an unforgettable evening.

Terra e Vini – Cormons (IT)
Italian winemakers’ paradise. This restaurant, owned by the Felluga family, is always filled with people from the world of winemaking. A stone’s throw from the Slovenian border, Cormons is also home to the factory where we produce our chairs.
Pizzeria San Marco – Milan (IT)
This modest pizzeria is like our second home during our stays in Milan. Our showroom on Via Tortona is around the corner and the staff will always keep a table for us, even when we are very late after a busy day during the international furniture fair.

Hostaria Da O’Batti – Portofino (IT)
This tiny restaurant is tucked away in a small street off the main square in Portofino. They serve a menu of Ligurian specialities but go for the langoustines and end with a homemade limoncello or a good grappa.
Eleven Madison Park – New York (US)
The ultimate food temple run by Daniel Humm and Will Guidara. A beautiful space in a landmark bank building on Madison Park, with ladies who lunch and a good mix of business people and artists. A must when visiting The Big Apple, also to enjoy a frozen cocktail.
Le Bouchon – Yountville (US)
Experience the best French food in this beautiful bistro of The French Laundry in Yountville in the Napa Valley, California. Jan’s sister lives nearby with her family and we always go for Sunday lunch when we visit. We enjoy the bistro because of the casual atmosphere and perfectly prepared authentic dishes.
Cutler & Co – Melbourne (AU)
Andrew McConnell’s flagship restaurant in Melbourne is a trendsetter in the world of great food in an industrial setting. We enjoyed one of our best meals ever in this casual setting, which is as far from the European fine-dining experience as you can get. Not only in distance but also in entourage. Book in advance.
Mariana’s – Stanford (ZA)
Mariana and Peter Esterhuizen’s restaurant in Stanford in the Overberg region of South Africa has become an institute for foodies. Mariana cooks whatever is available in her garden and the guests sit on her ‘stoep’ (terrace) overlooking the vegetable garden and fruit trees. Even the wines are from the village and of exceptional quality.

A Tavola – Antwerp (B)
This neighborhood restaurant is just around the cornor from our home in Antwerp. It is a typical Italian family restaurant run by Annelies and her husband Gennaro. He is from Naples and his roots are reflected in his deliscious dishes. Fish is his speciality. The tagliatelle frutti di mare must be the best in the world, but do also try the octopus.
