Kim Smith & Chris Weylandt
Kim Smith and Chris Weylandt are the owners of the many Weylandts stores in South Africa and Namibia. They also own the beautiful Maison Estate ans Restaurant in Franschhoek, designed by Van der Merwe Miszewski Architects. Chris’ father Edgar opened his first furniture store in 1964 in Windhoek, Namibia. Chris relocated to South Africa to set up a manufacturing plant in Cape Town and opened the first Weylandts Homestore in Durbanville in 1999. Today they even have a store in Melbourne, Australia. The Weylandts’ philosophy: the art of good living. No surprise they also import and sell Linteloo. ‘Chris first met Jan and Lars in 2001, in Higgovale, Cape Town,’ Kim explains. ‘They were walking on the land they had just purchased and where their beautiful Bridge House now stands. Chris popped his head over the fence and inquired if they were to be his new neighbours. The rest is history and the friendship, and later the business relationship between Linteloo and Weylandts, has grown from strength to strength. I met Jan in 2004. I liked him immediately! Jan is a very caring person with a generosity of spirit. He is filled with positive energy, is always optimistic and has a wonderful sense of humour. Jan’s smile lights up the room and his genuine love of people weaves a tapestry of beautiful friendships wherever he goes.
The four of us have had the most fantastic times together, mostly sharing delicious meals and far too much wine in the most wonderful places in the world. Time between seeing each other is irrelevant, as our friendship simply continues from our last conversation. We talk a lot, laugh a lot and appreciate each other a lot – no better recipe for a beautiful life! Our lives are richer for having Jan and Lars in them.’
