For many years Adri Vlasblom was editor in chief of Dutch Elle Decoration, where she is now Creative Director. ‘I have known Jan since the days of PastoeRohé-Gelderland. We immediately got along, also because we are both “Tukkers” from the region Twente, in the East of the Netherlands. You can still tell this from our light accents. Jan always had a smile on his face and was always in a good mood. In the early days I visited his home in Zeist for a photoshoot and he had made a room divider out of yellow and grey A’dammers, the famous cabinets by Aldo van den Nieuwelaar for Pastoe. I’ve had the pleasure to visit and photograph a lot of Jan’s houses. I remember a flat in Zeist, a listed building with walls painted deep purple in Utrecht… All of them had that casual, cosy Linteloo-feel. I was there when Jan showed the first collection made by young design talents who he wanted to give a chance. This was in the showroom of Van Tellingen in Zeist. Jan was the first to give away a piece of furniture for a special reader’s offer in our magazine: his sofa Easy Living. In the new showroom in Zeist, with a wonderful collection, perfectly styled, we held a special event for readers who were fans of the Linteloo brand, with a chef working away in the impressive kitchen. We also did a shoot there, featuring Jan with Henk, Roderick and Bart Vos.
In November 2005 photographer Hans Zeegers, my husband and I were invited by Jan and Lars to make a shoot of their beautiful Bridge House in South Africa. I remember an amazing lunch at their friend Frank’s restaurant at the Constantia Uitsig vineyard. So many good memories, of the penguins at Boulders Beach, restaurant Reuben’s in Franschhoek, the garden party our South African colleagues threw for the launch of a new edition. What a wonderful life, in such a pleasant atmosphere, perfectly suiting Jan’s and Lars’ no-nonsense lifestyle. I would like to thank them for so much hospitality and inspiration.’
